SP380
Features
About
The SP380 is a semiautomatic, compact handgun chambered in .380 Auto. Prototyping and fabrication took place in my own garage, where I used my precision mini-mill and 3d printer to bring my design to life.
I used AutoCAD and design thinking to conceptualize the mechanics of the assembly, create component interfaces, and make necessary material selections.
Overview
Its slide release is behind the thumb, making it easier to unlock. Similarly, the magazine release was placed under the pinky.
7 + 1 round capacity
Standard red dot mounting pattern
Slide lock
Magazine release
Versatile iron sights
Custom right-handed grip
How it Works
Slide and Rail Design
The SAP-380 operates on a slide-rail system, which almost eliminates chamber-breach clearance completely. Additionally, the slide and breach were separated, allowing the slide to act as a replacement part.
Greatly improves accuracy; slide flanges always contact the mating rail grooves
More consistent cycling and firing
Allows the slide to work independently from the frame
Promotes normal wear onto the slide, not the bolt
Cost-effective slide can be replaced easily
Heavy Duty Steel Frame
The steel frame coupled with the PETG polymer grip keeps the whole assembly very rigid. The barrel is threaded into the frame, which is ideal for accuracy.
Minimizes dimensional variation each repetition
Moves the center of mass directly over the hand
Greatly reduces vibrations felt in the palm
Eliminates slide and barrel deflection
Striker Ignition
A heavy weighted striker rod was employed into the fire control system to ensure consistent and reliable firing.
Additional weight in striker body increases impact force
Hardened tip to resist deformations
Heat treated striker built to endure significant use and wear
Angled striker notch results in a light, consistent tigger pull
Sear-Impinging Delay
The fire control sear doubles as an impingement delay system, allowing the components to function with lighter springs. When a round is fired, the impingement system locks the slide in place until an allowable chamber pressure is reached after which it is unlocked, allowing the slide to travel rearward and the trigger bar upwards,
Ensures a complete reset every shot
Doesn’t compromise accuracy unlike dropping barrel systems
Dulls the effects of sharp-felt recoil
SPC-22
Features
The SPC-22 is a semi-automatic .22 Long Rifle pistol initially designed for pest control and target shooting. Its small size and light-weight construction makes ATV and horseback transportation logistical, while its action provides superior precision.
Houses a Ruger MKII barrel
Frame includes left, right, upper, and lower picatinny rails for accessories
Created several barrel guard and frame designs
Stock magazine holds 10 rounds +1
Magazine well adapter hosts Sig Sauer P322 magazines
Forearm stabilizing brace created to improve my shooting after a wrist injury
Receiver uses standard Armalite fire control group
How it Works
3-Point Rail System
Right-Handed Bolt
The 3-point system is composed of two rails that restrict the bolts movement horizontally and vertically. A third buffer spring rod acts as the third contact point, and it slightly curved to add horizontal spring force ensuring that the bolt is always in the same spot when closed.
Reveales a new tier of long precision when it comes to short barrels
Curved buffer rod accounts keeps the bolts tight and accounts for normal rail wear, improving usefull life
High-tolerance bolt and bolt breach ensure consistent and reliable firing
Stainless steel bolt construction resists corrosion and reduces wear
The following firearms designs are novel. All firearms are in complicance with local, state, and federal laws. Each firearm has been tested extensively and were designed around safety and reliability.
